EMDR and Christian Counseling

October 16th, 2013Lesley Goth, PsyDHost: Barry Erdman

About The Presentation

Lesley Goth, PsyD, will be sharing practical ways to engage with Christian clients using EMDR to help process through their trauma.  Many Christian people have been taught to have “faith” and to “trust” that God loves them however, their damage and wounds often prevent “faith” and “trust” from being helpful in the healing process.  Lesley gives examples from her experience as a Christian counselor in how to help your Christian clients work through their wounds so that God can be a powerful ally in the healing process.   She will walk through the stages of EMDR using case examples to bring this topic to life.

About the Presenter

Lesley Goth, PsyD, received her BA in Psychology from Skidmore College in NY in 1990. During college, she worked closely with eating disorder and substance abuse patients at Silver Hill Psychiatric Hospital in Connecticut. She received her MA and PsyD in Clinical Psychology at California School of Professional Psychology (Alliant University) in 1994.  After graduate school, She completed her post doctorate hours in a variety of clinical settings including private practice, nursing home, HMO mental health clinic and a school for seriously emotionally disturbed adolescents.

Her heart has a special place for those who are battling eating disorders as well as traumas.  She has been trained in and will be certified in EMDR and uses it successfully in her practice with clients.

Soon after graduate school, she married and took time to raise her family. She also had the opportunity to do biblical counseling through her churches in Chino Hills, CA and Raleigh, NC. She found herself organically integrating a family systems approach with both a psychodynamic model and Christ-centered counseling.

After moving to Colorado in 2004, She returned to her passion for counseling and successfully completed the Colorado state licensing exam.  Now in private practice in Westminster, she loves working with adolescents and adults with all types of emotional issues.  She currently lives in Broomfield with her two children.
